Hey there Bostonian skeptics! Those of you who were unable to make it to Andreas Mershin’s fantastic Quantum Brain? talk on Monday really missed out, but don’t fret – video will be up soon, and Maggie & Sarah have finally perfected the lighting situation, so it will probably be the best one yet.

Coming soon: join us for the Boston Skeptics Nerd Brunch this Sunday, 11am, at the Asgard in Central Square. No speaker, no agenda, just hanging out with skeptics, eating pancakes. Please RSVP on the Facebook event page or comment below if you prefer, to help me get a good idea of the numbers. Apparently that day is the Super Bowl, but we should finish up well before kick-off.

We’re also lining up some fab speakers in the coming months, which will be announced shortly.

Finally, I (Rebecca) have teamed up with Bostonist to post skeptical, local articles. The first one is now up: Globe Misses the Point on Pet Acupuncture, in which I am highly critical of our beloved daily paper. Enjoy!

Just a reminder, skeptical New Englanders: come out to Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square tonight to hear Dr. Andreas Mershin discuss quantum quackery in a talk titled: Quantum Brain? He tells me the question mark is part of the title and very important, so please note it.

Here’s the Facebook page if you’d like to RSVP, and here’s the info on Boston Skeptics.

See you there!

On Monday, January 26, Andreas Mershin (not shown) will discuss the ways in which pseudoscientists abuse quantum mechanics!

Here are some links to info about Andreas on Wikipedia, and an article he wrote for New Scientist.

Please note that on this evening, Tommy Doyle’s will be hosting an event in the same space starting at 9:30pm, so we have to be out by then. However, drinking and talking can continue downstairs until the place closes.

Monday, January 26, 2009
Time:
7:00pm – 9:30pm
Location:
Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square (top floor)
96 Winthrop Street
Cambridge, MA

Tommy Doyle’s is easy to get to (here’s a map!). Just take the Red Line or any number of buses to Harvard Square. It’s in that fun little alley, near the Staples, Grendel’s Den, Om, and Upstairs on the Square.

New to Skeptics in the Pub? No problem! It’s a friendly crowd full of people who enjoy discussing all sorts of topics from a rational point of view.

Here’s the Facebook event page, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Hello and happy new year, local skeptics! I’m happy to announce that we’ll be gathering on a regular basis to enjoy delicious brunches. Right now, I’m thinking more or less every other Sunday morning at 11am, starting February 1, at Asgard in Central Square.

After that, we’ll play it by ear. It won’t always be every other Sunday, because I don’t want to run into other events we’ll have going on, giving some space before and after our pub meet-ups.

I’ll post a reminder about the first brunch a little closer to the date, but just wanted to give you all a heads up. I’ve added the date to the calendar (in the right-hand sidebar).

Mmmm, nerdy brunch.
