Look Around You: Robogeist!

So, I was out in the park, taking some random photos of an old mill. (Old mills are everywhere in the Northeast. Think about it. It’s probably true.) Everything seemed normal, but when I got home I noticed something weird in the photo. It was a ghost! Not just any ghost, though, it was a ROBOT. A robogeist, if you will.

Holy shit, guys, a hainted mill!

Robo-geist!

In case it’s not clear, I’m talking about the weird boxy thing peeking around the lower left corner of the mill. What is it really?

Damn those hainted mills!

It looks more like a square ghost orb than anything. If you felt the ghost cold then it’s a ghost, but if you felt static electricity then it is definitely a robo’orb.

Not a ghost orb. This is something you would see with your naked eye if you stood on the spot where I took the photo.

Incidentally, I just spotted an image of Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel in the bricks of the mill. This really is a haunted spot!

It looks sort of like a security camera.

Is the low quality of the picture done on purpose?

Not a security camera, but you’re in the neighbourhood of the right answer.

Yeah, I used a low-quality JPG compression when I converted the image from RAW, and the original photo was intentionally out-of-focus as well. I did it that way partially for fun, partially to obscure the object, and partially for a more authentic paranormal feel.

Looks like it is probably some type of street lamp or lamp in the park.

Street light is exactly it! In the best Skepchick tradition, of course. ;)

Congrats, Todd.

Woot! Two for two!

A square streetlight? No, no, no, the only possible explanation is a ghost orb.

I was going to say streetlight but only as a joke.

I remember a whole “IT IS A STREETLIGHT” meme on FARK back when I still read FARK.

So it goes.
