I’m feelin’ the Dragon*Con blues…

I just realized it’s been three weeks since Dragon*Con. Remember as a child, that depressing period after you favorite holiday/your birthday/summer vacation when you know it’s going to be a full year before the BEST TIME EVER comes again? Yeah…that’s where I am right now.  This is my 5th time experiencing the post-con blues, and they don’t get any easier.  Although, I am lucky that this is also my 5th time in a row missing out on the post-con plague! (Hope you’re feeling better, Pamela Gay).

If you weren’t at Dragon*Con: SORRY, SUCKAS!!!!  You missed out, and I mean big time.  I spent a massive amount of time chilling at the Skepchick table keeping Surly Amy company and shilling her awesome wares (and failing miserably at distributing Boston Skeptics cards), so I missed most of the daytime Skeptrack panels.  However, the late-night podcast recordings were all fabulous.  Friday night, I arrived just in time for a quick reunion with out Fearless Leader in Absentia before the beginning of the Skepchick Lounge podcast.  In attendance were Skepchicks Rebecca, Maria, Amy, A, Carrie, Tracy, Debbie (the newest chick), and Sam the Skepchick Man. Special guest panelists included Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy from MST3K, Scott Sigler, and the guy from fark.com…I think.  You can thank our own Kevin and Felicity for impairing my memory of the panel.  One thing I do remember clearly: an epic and completely random spittake from George Hrab.

Wow

Kevin Eldridge is a hero for capturing this moment.

Saturday night, Scott Sigler entertained us with special guests A Kovacs and Donna Mugavero, aka two of the coolest chicks around.  We learned that A used to be a roadie for New Kids on the Block, and that Donna drinks Tuaca like a champ.

Sunday night was the Amateur Scientist podcast with Brian Thompson.  Though I am not a regular listener, I learned last year that Brian is absolutely hilarious.  This year’s podcast did not disappoint.  Brian is magic, so he somehow managed to snag both Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Entertainment AND Scott Adsit from 30 Rock as guests.  If that weren’t enough, the show closed at about 1:30 am with a call to Newt Gingrich during which Brian declared the con hotels a temporary mosque, and the entire audience prayed to Allah on speakerphone.  Now there’s a memory.

I know, I suck for not going to more Skeptrack panels.  I hear they were super good.  But hey, I was up until at least 5am every night (morning?) partying with some really awesome skeptical people.  Oh, and I also got stuck with a needle to save babies thanks to the Hug Me, I’m Vaccinated campaign!  So, I’d say I won this year’s Dragon*Con.  Who’s going to join me next year?  If you aren’t convinced yet, check out some of my favorite pics from the weekend:

Squatchy Love

The Skepchicks reunite with SquatchyPants.

PhotoBombWin

Me and Adam Savage, plus bonus Kevin Murphy photobomb!

Simulvax

Sam and I were vaccinated simultaneously, and then did a recreation for the camera...or so I thought.

Buffy Awesomeness

My biggest geek out moment of the con: awesome Buffy costumes!!!!!

Troi!

I got to meet Marina Sirtis, after all these years! Also said hi to Armin Shimerman and Rene Auberjonois, which was excellent.

Hi Maggie,

I have a new phone with no numbers. Our projector is still on back order, so I do not have it up and running for tonight. Can we remedy this? Call me at 617-686-2550 first thing tomorrow.

Thanks!

Garrett
